It is also hard to say how long the effects will last so it is important to have someone drive you to and from the dental office.

With IV sedation, you will be asleep during the procedure, which makes it ideal for more extensive dental work like cosmetic dentistry and oral surgery. During most procedures, your dentist will want you to be in control and awake to answer questions, so it is not a good option for those just needing a cleaning or filling. Since the IV sedation will put you to sleep it is also required that you have someone drive you home afterward.
