Sedation Dentistry in Round Rock, TX
We know that visits to the dentist can sometimes be stressful. But can you picture undergoing a dental treatment like root canal therapy with no anxiety or discomfort? With safe, effective sedation at our Round Rock dental office, we can provide comfortable treatment to help you relax and get the care you need.
Where Dental Anxiety Starts
We make it a priority to help you understand where your feelings of anxiety originate so that we can take steps toward a positive and healthy approach to future dental care. People often develop dental anxiety because of a bad experience in the past, which can happen to both children and adults. But it can just as easily result from one (or a combination) of several other factors:
- Discomfort while sitting in the dental chair for long periods of time
- Strong gag reflex
- Very sensitive teeth
- A hard time getting (and staying) numb from anesthetics
These are all legitimate concerns, but they don’t have to control your life. We work with you to alleviate your anxiety by replacing those negative feelings with compassion, understanding, and effective sedation methods.
Comfortable Sedation Options to Help You Relax
Dr. Zavala and Dr. Lewcock are concerned about your well-being and are committed to using every resource available to make your dental visits comfortable. Both doctors have extensive specialized training in this area and are licensed by the state of Illinois to perform safe, effective dental sedation. To ensure your comfort, we offer:
One of our doctors will prescribe a calming medication that you take an hour prior to your appointment. This allows the medicine to work so that you will already be relaxed when you arrive at our office.
The type of medication we prescribe depends on your needs, but all have a similar effect. The pill will make you feel drowsy so that you can sit back and relax comfortably during your procedure. Because of the effects of the medication can linger for a while, you will need to bring a friend or family member who can drive you to and from your appointment.
For certain types of procedures, we may recommend IV (intravenous) sedation administered by our IV sedation specialist. The medication is injected into your bloodstream, so the effects are immediate. You will fall asleep and be completely unaware of what is going on around you. IV sedation will leave you feeling somewhat drowsy immediately afterward, so you will need to bring a designated driver to your appointment.
